About FareEstimate
FareEstimate shows what a ride should cost before you open an app. Enter a pickup and a drop-off and we estimate the price on Uber, Lyft, taxis and self-driving services side by side. There is no login and nothing to install.
The site has been comparing ride prices since 2016.
What you will find here
- Fare comparison. Price any trip by ride type, with traffic, airport fees and tolls taken into account, then open the ride you want with the trip already filled in.
- City and airport guides. Typical prices, taxi rates, where to meet your ride at the airport, and popular routes.
- A self-driving ride tracker. Where Waymo, Tesla Robotaxi, Zoox and others carry riders, which app books them, and what has changed.
- Promo codes. First-ride and referral offers for the services we cover, each with the date we last checked it.
How the estimates are made
Ride companies do not share live prices with comparison sites. We route each trip with current or predicted traffic, price it with rates for that city and ride type, add airport fees, city charges and tolls, and adjust for the hour of the week using public trip records. Because apps quote different riders different prices at the same moment, every result is a range, not a promise. The full method, and where it falls short, is here.
How we keep it accurate
Rates, fees and service areas change. Pages that depend on them show when they were last checked, and every page has a link to report something that looks wrong. When a rider tells us what an app actually quoted, that feeds back into the estimates for that city.
How the site is paid for
Some links on our promo pages are referral links, and we may receive a credit when you sign up through one. That does not change what you get, and it has no effect on the estimates: no company pays to appear in a comparison or to be shown as cheaper.
Independence
FareEstimate is not owned by or partnered with Uber, Lyft, Waymo, Tesla or any other company named on the site. Their names are used only to identify their services.
