How much is an Uber per mile?
It depends on the city and the length of the trip. In Columbus, a 5-mile UberX around midday works out to about $3.53–5.11 per mile, and a 20-mile trip to about $2.54–3.68 per mile. Across the 38 cities we cover, a 5-mile UberX ranges from $11–16 in Indianapolis to $29–42 in Seattle.
Why do short rides cost more per mile?
Every ride carries a base fare and a booking fee, and most cities have a minimum fare. On a short trip those fixed charges are spread over only a mile or two, so the price per mile is much higher than on a long ride.
Do Uber and Lyft charge by the minute too?
Yes. Both charge a rate per minute as well as per mile, so the same distance costs more in heavy traffic. That is why this calculator asks for minutes as well as miles. If you do not know the time, leave our suggestion, which assumes ordinary city driving.
Does the price include tips, tolls and airport fees?
Tips are not included. This calculator prices a trip inside the city, so it leaves out airport fees and tolls. For a trip to or from an airport, or one that crosses a toll bridge, enter the real addresses on our trip estimator, which adds them.
Why does the time of day change the price?
Uber and Lyft raise prices when many people are asking for rides at once, such as the evening rush or a Friday night, and lower them when it is quiet. Pick a time above to see the difference for the same trip.
